From a background as a corporate lawyer, Samantha is now an endurance athlete, corporate presenter, writer and social entrepreneur. Her thirst for adventure, experience and thrill for life has allowed her to discover what she cares about the most - achieving social change through the vehicle of adventure and running. Samantha has run through some of the most extreme and inhospitable locations on the planet. From the deserts in Chile, China, Egypt and Antarctica, to the mountains of Nepal, New Zealand, South Africa and India.
She has recently completed a 3253km 77 day run from the West to East of India as an Ambassador for World Vision. Throughout the run Samantha visited communities World Vision support and explored the barriers to quality education for children throughout the country, raising over $150,000 to support six education focused programs.
Beyond the unimaginable feat of running more than 3,000 kilometres across India, the Run India campaign has strengthened Samantha Gash’s resolve to share future adventure experiences with other women.
And now we are very proud to announce Samantha is one of our Women’s Adventure Summit Ambassadors.
We recently caught up with her to find out more:
WHY DID YOU SAY YES TO BEING AN AMBASSADOR FOR THE TRAVEL PLAY LIVE WOMEN'S ADVENTURE SUMMIT?
Well Hayley and I ambushed Kez and Amy the moment we heard they were putting on the Travel Play Live Women’s Summit. We were keen to support in anyway possible, so there was no hesitation when our bubbling brainstorming transpired into an offer to come on board as Ambassadors. I have been reading the Travel Play Live magazines since they started being published, have contributed to an article and it is so nice that the story of women adventurers, in all of its forms, is being captured and shared to inspire and spark the imagination within us all.
WHAT DO YOU THINK WOMEN WILL TAKE AWAY FROM EMERGING THEMSELVES IN THE SUMMIT EXPERIENCE?
If you decide to come to the Travel Play Live Women’s Summit you are giving yourself permission to play in nature, explore your bodies capabilities, push boundaries and connect with women who have given themselves that same opportunity. What happens after that will be unique to each woman.
WHAT IS YOUR DEFINITION OF ADVENTURE?
You might have a goal when you set out on an adventure. Yet the real adventure lies in the journey which is uncertain and takes you into the unknown.
HOW DO YOU SEE ADVENTURE AS A CATALYST FOR CHANGE?
I truly believe adventure can be motivated by an endless number of reasons. All of them valid and rewarding. For me, I am drawn to using adventure as a vehicle to affect social change to issues that mean a lot to me. Specifically, in the space of exploring the barriers to quality education for children around the world. This thing called adventure is something where I cannot control, have predetermined outcomes or processes. For me adventure takes me to my rawest state. Where I am willing to learn the most about myself, connect with my strengths and confront my weaknesses. It terrifies and delights me all at once. I’ve found when I am able to share my story of vulnerability through adventure and place it into context of the ongoing and real suffering of others, it has the chance to provide insight, perspective and make positive tangible change.
WHAT CAN DELEGATES EXPECT FROM YOU OVER THE WEEKEND?
I cannot wait to meet everyone!! I am an approachable pint size human who loves to chatter and listen to the adventure dreams of other people. You will also find me bouncing around the place with my sister-in-adventure Hayley Talbot. We will be there squeezing your hand, giving you tips as you embark on many of your adventures over the three days and giving you an excitable high-five around the campfire afterwards.
