"The Fitbit is an awesome use of amazing technology which can be used to empower an individuals wellness journey through information. I looked at the Apple watch but it seemed expensive for how I would use it. I came across the Fitbit wristbands, noticing the Charge would give me a watch and monitor my physical activity. I got very excited when I discovered the Aria smart scales and immediately found the best price I could and purchased both the Charge wristband and Aria smart scales.

The system is truly amazing for its use of technology. It all revolves around a free Fitbit account, you add your devices and monitor it all through the Fitbit app or website, personally I like the app.

The scales measure weight and body fat. You set it up using your computer and it communicates over wifi, I’m a techy by trade and it blew my mind for a device that is traditionally such a simple thing. The thing I love the most is that it syncs the data to the account, no more manual entry. I found the body fat percentage interesting; a percentage target is so much better than a weight target.

The Charge wrist band monitors so much it’s a bit scary, but totally awesome. Like all things tech, you use what you want and ignore the rest. Mostly I’m interested in the steps to calorie ratio in relation to my calorie intake.

There is also a food diary in the app but it is a little limiting for what I like. The app allows for an Australian selection but from a quick investigation the database didn’t have many core Australian foods.

At the start for me it’s all about monitoring, seeing where I am at now and then making small changes over time to create long term sustainable improvements. I’m a logical person and I love the way technology can provide me with absolute data in which I can analyse and make informed decisions. This system has empowered and energised me further towards my wellness goals."
